SYLHET, Bangladesh (AP) — Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and sent Sri Lanka in to bat in the test series opener on Friday.

Bangladesh, which will be without experienced batter Mushfiqur Rahim because of a fractured thumb, handed a debut to up-and-coming pace bowler Nahid Rana. The 21-year-old Rana has bowled at speeds close to 150 kph (93 mph) in a recent limited-overs tournament.

Sri Lanka recalled fast bowler Lahiru Kumara for his first test since a series last year against New Zealand.

The three-format tour has been evenly split, with Sri Lanka winning the Twenty20 series 2-1 and Bangladesh securing the ODI series by same margin.
