COLOMBO, Sri Lanka — Bangladesh chased down a tough 215-run target against Sri Lanka with two balls to spare in the Twenty20 tri-series on Saturday.

It was the fourth successful run chase in T20 history, and the highest in Sri Lanka. The previous best in the country was 178-3 by Pakistan during the 2012 World Twenty20.

Former captain Mushfiqur Rahim led Bangladesh with an unbeaten 72 off 35 deliveries. He hit four sixes and five fours.

Along with India, all three teams have one win each.

Bangladesh made a flying start plundering 74 runs in the first six powerplay overs. Liton Das smashed 43 off 19 balls with five sixes and two boundaries. Tamim Iqbal made 47 off 29 deliveries.

Mushfiqur weighed in, and Bangladesh required nine runs off the last over bowled by Thisara Perera.

Mushfiqur flicked the fourth delivery to mid-wicket and took a single to clinch the win.

Sri Lanka's total of 214 was its fourth highest, and the second highest at home after the 215-3 in 2015 against the West Indies at Pallekele.

Sri Lanka was powered by half-centuries by Kusal Mendis and Kusal Perera, who added 85 runs for the second wicket off 53 deliveries.

Mendis hit 57 off 30 deliveries with five sixes and two fours. He and Danushka Gunathilaka combined to open with 56, and Sri Lanka made 70-1 in the six overs of powerplay.

Perera, who scored a match-winning half-century against India, finishing with 74 off 48 deliveries with eight fours and two sixes.

Captain and part-time spinner Mahmudullah Riyad checked the run flow with two wickets in an over, claiming Mendis and Dasun Shanaka (0), both batsmen caught by Sabbir Rahman.

Captain Dinesh Chandimal followed soon after as Sabbir Rahman completed a third catch.

Perera shared a 55-run partnership with former captain Upul Tharanga to take Sri Lanka's total beyond 200. Tharanga was unbeaten on 32.

Mustafizur Rahman finished with 3-48.

The tri-series ends with a final next weekend.
